Netlist was founded in 2000, with a mission to manufacture and market a comprehensive line of mission-critical board-level memory products used in IT infrastructure equipment such as servers, routers and broadband switching systems.
The company’s founding team is comprised of semiconductor industry veterans who collectively possess a keen understanding of the OEM marketplace, a unique expertise in modular design technology, and a proven track-record as an OEM provider team. Initially, these were the qualities that differentiated Netlist from its competitors.
In recent years, as the gap continues to widen between industry demand for increased DRAM density and the ability of major DRAM manufacturers to develop the required components, Netlist developed proprietary sub-system technology to overcome these density issues. The company pioneered ideas such as embedding passives into printed circuit boards, doubling densities via 4-rank DDR technology, and other off-chip advances to become a premier supplier for high-density modular solutions to the world's leading system OEMs.
With the advent of 64-bit computing, and a reduction in the number of memory slots per device, memory capacity requirements per slot have continued to accelerate, while form factor requirements have diminished radically in size. To meet this demand, the company incorporated state-of-the-art design, manufacturing and testing facilities in the U.S., and developed relationships with qualified contract manufacturers in the Far East to increase production capacity to more than one million memory subsystem modules annually.
Today, Netlist’s board-level solutions, based on DSPs, microcontrollers, RISC processors, DRAM, SRAM and Flash technologies, are marketed to leading OEMs worldwide. Along with the end hardware product, Netlist provides turnkey services including design and contract manufacturing. Netlist’s strategy is to marry its unique board-level expertise with a thorough understanding of semiconductor building blocks and system-level applications, to deliver value-added products that offer a performance and time-to-market edge for its customers.
Netlist is headquartered in the Irvine Spectrum in Irvine, California, at the heart of what has become known as the "Tech-Coast”.
